Lars Hyllienmark and Tom Brismar review the evidence for the interrelationships between the diagnosis of diabetes, recurrent episodes of severe hypoglycemia, and neural integrity, as measured by surface scalp electrodes while the participant is resting (electroencephalography), experiencing sensory stimuli (auditory or visual evoked potentials), or responding to cognitive stimuli (event-related potentials).
