Diabetic Hypoglycemia January 2014, Volume 6, Issue 3: page 1
Hypoglycemia can occur without warning and at any time of the day and night. This unpredictability of hypoglycemia, as well as its negative effects on cognition, mood and physical performance, ensures that hypoglycemia can have a very disruptive effect on the lives of people with diabetes. Not surprisingly, most individuals with type 1 or insulin-treated type 2 diabetes seek to avoid hypoglycemia and consistently cite hypoglycemia as the major obstacle to good glycemic control. In addition, severe hypoglycemia has been described as the most frightening event in a person’s life and can lead to insecurity and emotional distress.
