The impact of pre-conception insulin on hypoglycemia during pregnancy
Many women with diabetes experience a high frequency of severe hypoglycemia during pregnancy. In a separate exploratory analysis of a study comparing prandial insulin aspart (IAsp) with human insulin (HI), Heller et al compared the incidence of severe hypoglycemia in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes who received intensified insulin therapy pre-conception, with those who first received intensified therapy during early pregnancy. Additionally, the investigators sought to comment on potential differences between IAsp and HI in treating severe hypoglycemia during pregnancy.
